SECOND SCENE
The Letter
February 1862. Gabriel’s father, Sante, reads the letter sent by Fr. Norberto, Rector of studies of the young Francesco Possenti, telling him of the untimely early death of his son, aged only 24. After reading the letter, his heartbroken father sings, evoking images of his son.
